Everything I Learned, I Learned in Kindergarten... and Then Re-learned as a Mom

Construction 301:  Today, we're dealing with advanced stuff.  Of course, nothing that your typical kindergarten student can't handle.  I take you back to the days of blocks, Lincoln Logs, bottle caps, and Legos.  When I was growing up, with a bucket full of bottle caps and rubber bands, my brother, sister, and I could design high-tech roads all over the front room that would compete with any trillion-dollar spaghetti-bowl bridges you could find today.  And watching my own kids, I'm amazed at their ability to design and build towers from the time they're one, (of course, the demolition part comes more natural at this particular age.)  The ranch houses, barns, fences and forts are five-star that they construct with their Lincoln Logs.  Don't even get me started on the Legos.  Underwater command centers with a fleet of sixteen differently constructed power ships that not only speed underwater, but can fly, as well, dominate every corner of the kid's bedrooms.

So, at what age does the quality go down, and the price go up, when you are trying to build something so simple as a house?   Maybe not everything sticks with you from kindergarten to motherhood, after all!

Share your building frustrations and tips with me.

  1. I really wish we hadn't decided to build for our first home. We where completely naive about the whole process and the builder took us for all we had. Grrrr.

  3. Jen, how frustrating! It costs enough without having to pay extra!

Kelly, I think it's because we Mothers have so much to remember all the time! There's no room to stuff any more in there!

  4. I haven't really gotten to the stage you're in, but I HAVE realized that kids do seem to get smarter or maybe I'm just getting dumber.
That show, "Smarter than a 5th Grader" kind of proves my point, I think.
